Our History

The Congregation of Our Lady of Charity of the Good Shepherd in Angers, France, sent 5 Sisters to begin work for the abandoned, exploited, abused and marginalised women and children. They arrived in Bangalore on 15th August, 1854. From thence we have branched out into 9 States of India and Nepal too. In 1999 the sisters came of Nagpur to carry out the same mission here in Mecosabagh. In 2013 we were divided for administrative reasons and we now serve in 7 States of India viz. Maharashtra, Goa, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Telengana, Madhya Pradesh and Jharkand and in Pokhara and Kathmandu in Nepal. Our services are:

*      Formal Schools;

*      Non Formal education centers, Shelters and programs for girl children from the streets and for rescued Child Laborers; 

*      A few Clinics and a mobile clinic in the rural areas to cater to the health needs of the people; 

*      We work with women in prostitution and their children, domestic workers, migrant workers and prisoners; 

*      Our Sisters are part of the campaign against human trafficking in India and Nepal.

*      900 girl children are being educated through a Sponsorship program from Canada;

*      We have also a Child Line to help children in distress;

*    We have a few Crisis Intervention centers for women in distress, through counseling and mediation programs several disputes and family conflicts are settled.

Our Sisters having established themselves in Nagpur, Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh, registered themselves under the Andhra Pradesh (Telengana Area) Public Societies Registration Act 1350 Fasli (Act 1 of 1350 F.) on 14th March, 2000 in Hyderabad.
